NATIONAL FILM CENTER ESTABLISHED

To establish films as a unique calling card for Taiwan, the Ministry of Culture launched the National Film Center on July 28. Upon completion, the Center will include theaters, a film library, and a digital restoration center.


SPANISH INSTITUTE JOINS SPOTLIGHT TAIWAN

Circulo de Bellas Artes, a major multidisciplinary center with one of the most active cultural programs in Madrid, has signed on to become the Ministry’s latest European partner in the “Spotlight Taiwan” project.


JAPANESE FESTIVAL TO FEATURE 6 TAIWAN BANDS

Six rock bands from Taiwan — ChthoniC, Mayday, Cosmospeople, Magic Power, Aphasia, and Loh Tsui Kweh Commune — will perform at the 2014 Summer Sonic music festival in Japan during mid-August.


RAINBOW INITIATIVE: 2014 OPEN CALL

The Ministry is seeking to subsidize multinational and multi-disciplinary collaborative cultural projects by offering funding in amounts between NT$3 million and NT$10 million. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 1.


'LOVE IN THE TIME OF PEACE'

The National Human Rights Museum has organized a series of weekend screenings of notable films on human rights in Taichung City. The screenings will be accompanied by a month-long book illustration fair and discussion forums.


'MONGOLIAN AND TIBETAN COSTUMES'

To deepen the general public’s understanding of Mongolian and Tibetan cultures, the National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung will host a three-month special exhibition on the attire and headwear of these two unique groups.


'ASAD ORIENTAL DANCE GROUP'

Asad Oriental Dance, a performance group dedicated to interpreting Middle Eastern dance and music with the Taiwanese spirit, will perform outdoors on Aug. 2 at the National Tainan Living Arts Center.


'SMILE, SUMMER! YOUTH ILLUSTRATION'

Co-organized by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage and Taiwan Design Center, the Taichung exhibition featuring eight Taiwanese designers will offer entry to a fantasy world through colorful drawings.


'HSINCHU CITY INT'L GLASS ART FESTIVAL'

The biennial Hsinchu City International Glass Art Festival celebrating the beauty of glass art and the culture of the glass industry in Hsinchu County will be held in northwestern Taiwan until Aug. 31.


'TRACES OF POETRY'

“Traces of Poetry” is the first public exhibition organized by the newly established Qidong Poetry Salon, a subordinate organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Taiwan’s poetry heritage.
