Born in 1960 in Jhushan Township, Nantou, Liu Hsing-tse grew up watching his father skillfully create bamboo products as he often assisted in the family factory after school. This immersive experience fostered his deep affection for bamboo. After graduating from junior high school, Liu decided to apprentice at a bamboo workshop.
In 1906, the first modern sugar factory in Taiwan was established there by the Japanese Meiji Sugar Company, later becoming Jiali Sugar Factory. The predecessor of Soulangh Cultural Park was a group of 14 warehouses belonging to the Jiali Sugar Factory, covering an area of approximately 13.8 hectares.
