The Queer East Festival 2026 opened on May 1 at the Barbican Centre in the U.K. with a sold-out screening of “The Outsiders”, a film directed by Yu Kan-ping and adapted from Pai Hsien-yung’s novel of the same name.
Backed by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Sydney has partnered with the Biennale of Sydney to present four Taiwanese artists at this year’s festival.
The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, in collaboration with The Music Center, is presenting “Life in Motion”, an interactive digital installation by Taiwanese artist Po-Hao Chi, on view through June 28.

To mark the 2026 Taiwan Season at Festival Off Avignon and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) held a press conference on June 2 to preview the program lineup and outline its plans for expanding international exchange.

On May 29, Minister of Culture Li Yuan visited the Preparatory Office of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tainan (MOMA Tainan), and called for its prompt institutionalization so that it can fully assume its role as a national art museum.

The Ministry of Culture announced the recipients the 45th National Cultural Award on June 1, naming Chiu Kun-liang, Liao Ching-sung, and Hsu Jen-shiu as this year’s honorees.

Born in Zhutian Township of Pingtung County, Chen’s artistic inclinations began to flourish at a young age. He studied in the Department of Architecture of National Ping Tung Industrial Vocational High School, where he actively participated in projects focused on poster and advertising design.

After 1945, the Taihoku North Police Department was restructured into the Taipei City Police Department. In 1998, the former Taihoku North Police Station was designated a Taipei City municipal monument. It is the only remaining police station in Taipei City from the 1930s, and as such, it has become a valuable witness to modern history.
