FEAST OF LITERARY EVENTS IN MALAYSIA

To make inroads to Malaysia, the largest Chinese-speaking market in Southeast Asia, the Ministry of Culture will organize a series of innovative fringe events to accompany the Taiwan Pavilion at the 2014 BookFest Malaysia.


TOPPING-OFF CEREMONY HELD FOR XIQU CENTER

A topping-off ceremony was held on July 22 to celebrate the preliminary completion of the Xiqu Center of Taiwan, a facility devoted to the traditional performance genre of Chinese drama and musical theater.


UC SAN DIEGO JOINS SPOTLIGHT TAIWAN

Following the Los Angeles and Berkeley branches of the University of California, UC San Diego has become the third Californian state university to formally join the Ministry of Culture’s “Spotlight Taiwan” global initiative.


HONORING PUBLISHER REX HOW

Rex How, founder of the Locus Publishing Company in Taiwan, has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 Golden Tripod Special Contribution Award for his lifetime commitment to the publishing industry.


THE 2014 AAIFF IN NEW YORK

Four productions from Taiwan will be screened at the 2014 Asian American International Film Festival in New York. The selection will explore the challenges brought upon by globalization and urbanization.


UNDERSTANDING TAIWAN THROUGH FILMS

Movie director Wan Jen, one of the leading filmmakers of Taiwan’s New Wave of Cinema era, will travel to the United Kingdom to join two special screenings of his films at the University of London from July 28 to 30.


RAINBOW INITIATIVE: 2014 OPEN CALL

The Ministry is seeking to subsidize multinational and multi-disciplinary collaborative cultural projects by offering funding in amounts between NT$3 million and NT$10 million. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 1.


'HOUSE: LIVING & ART DECO EXHIBITION'

Contemporary designers hailing from France, Canada, and Poland will be presenting their aesthetics through chairs, lamps, frames, and other house décor at the Art Stock 20 in Taichung from July 20 through Aug. 20.


'THE MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS'

A traveling exhibition showcasing an aggregate of relics from failed relationships has landed in Taipei. Visitors can also join the public mourning by donating their personal tokens to the collection.


'2014 TAIWAN DESIGN EXPO'

An annual celebration of Taiwan’s design prowess will be held in Taitung City from Aug. 2 to 17. Organized under the theme of “open design,” the two-week expo will offer creative stalls, workshops, open-air concerts, and more.
