HISTORIC RAILWAY DEPOT NAMED HERITAGE SITE

The Taipei Railway Workshop, a major assembly and repair site constructed in the 1930s, has received designation as a national heritage site. The site encompasses a 168-meter-long train assembly shed and a Japanese-style bathhouse.


LATE COMPOSER AWARDED PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

A presidential citation has been awarded to the late Taiwanese composer Tyzen Hsiao, widely known as Taiwan’s Rachmaninoff,” who passed away in California last month after battling lung cancer for two years.


'DR. SUN' CAPTURES BEST PICTURE, AUDIENCE AWARDS

Taiwanese coming-of-age film “Meeting Dr. Sun,” directed by filmmaker Yee Chih-yen and featuring a predominately young cast, captured two top awards at the Osaka Asian Film Festival on March 15.


TAIWANESE WRITER TOURS US SOUTH

Taiwanese writer Chu Tien-wen, the recipient of the 4th Newman Prize for Chinese Literature, attended a series of literary discussions and film screenings during her stay in the southern U.S. from March 5 through 15.


TAIWANESE FILMS, TV DRAMAS HEAD FOR HK

This year, 44 film studios and 22 TV production studios form the Taiwanese delegation to the Hong Kong International Film And TV Market, which will run concurrently with the 39th Hong Kong Film Festival.


TAIWANESE CRAFTS, BRANDS TO DEBUT IN THAI FAIR

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) has been invited to be one of the exhibitors at the International Innovative Craft Fair (IICF), a professional trade show in Thailand.


POMPIDOU CENTER TO SCREEN TAIWANESE FILMS

Two Taiwanese documentaries were selected by the Festival du Cinéma du Réel, one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Europe, to be screened at the Pompidou Center in France on March 22 and 24.


TAIWANESE RAPPER, BANDS GEAR UP FOR AUSTIN

Taiwan will be represented by rapper Dwagie, fusion act Toffee, and electro-rock band OVDS at a special showcase program titled “Taiwan Music Night” at the upcoming SXSW Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas.


'MY FIRST SHOW'

The latest recipients of “My First Show,” a subsidy program that provides the opportunity for new artists to debut their works, will hold a joint exhibition in Taipei from March 12 to 22, and in Kaohsiung City from March 19 to 22.


'FOOTSTEPS OF FATE'

Two concerts themed 'Footsteps of Fate' featuring renowned Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra will take place in Chiayi and Taichung on the March 21-22 weekend.
