EDINBURGH GEARS UP FOR 'TAIWAN SEASON'

Taiwanese culture will be presented by four performance groups at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August – Tjimur Dance Theatre, Puppet Beings Theatre, Formosa Circus Art, and TAI Body Theatre.


QUEENS MUSEUM TO HOLD 'TAIWAN NIGHT' IN NY

A Taiwan Night featuring live music and a film screening will be presented on July 23 as part of the “Passport Thursdays” outdoor series organized by the Queens Museum of Art in New York.


TAIWANESE VIDEO INSTALLATION IN SANTA MONICA

“Flowing” - a video installation exploring the theme of time by Taiwanese artist Chen Chih-chien - will be displayed at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica from July 13 to Aug. 29.


JAPAN-INFLUENCED TAIWANESE PAINTINGS UNVEILED

“Brimming with Nostalgia – The Humanistic Landscape of Taiwanese and Japanese Watercolor Paintings,” a joint exhibition featuring over 30 painters, will run from July 6 through 31 at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York.


'TRANSIENT LIVES IN THE TIME OF WAR'

In “Transient Lives in the Time of War,” a special exhibition commemorating the 70th victory anniversary of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the leading roles are the ordinary people of that wartime generation.


'PREHISTORIC TAIWAN JADE'

“Prehistoric Taiwan Jade,” a special exhibition featuring items on loan from the National Museum of Prehistory collection, will be presented at the art gallery of the Taipower Building in Taipei from July 1 to Oct. 31.


'MAGNIFYING MINIATURES'

An international exhibition featuring the aesthetics of miniature sculptures from around the world will kick off at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall from July 18 through 30.


'2014 TAIWAN CRAFTS: SHORTLISTED ARTISTS'

The Executive Yuan will display a selection of art pieces spanning from porcelain to gold and lacquer crafts from June 12 to Dec. 12. The featured artwork were made by 11 artists shortlisted by the 2014 Taiwan Craft Competition.


'RENOVATION & REFORM'

“Renovation and Reform,” a special exhibition at the National Museum of Taiwan History, will lead visitors to revisit 19th-century Taiwanese society through its collection of historic images, maps, manuscripts, and illustrations.


MINISTER PROPOSES CREATIVE PARK REFORMS

At a July 14 press conference held to discuss his recent visit to Japan and France, Minister Hung Meng-chi said he will reorganize the operations of the nation’s five major creative parks to focus on “incubating cultural and creative prowess.”
