Taiwanese artists present their creations to showcase the close connection between vegetation and human lifestyle at the Rencontres d'Arles, an annual photography festival in France.
Representative figures of Taiwan's cultural sector are invited to attend and speak at a Taiwan-themed lecture series in Malaysia, with an aim to develop exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia.
Ministry Updates
Minister of Culture Shih Che visited Douliu Zehnyi Temple and Huwei Sugar Refinery dormitory complex on Aug. 26, mentioning that the Yunlin County Government has been actively planning various cultural construction projects.
The 2023 World Ethnic Film Festival will take place from Sept. 15 through 24 in Taiwan. 19 films from 17 countries/regions are selected to be screened at Taipei’s Spot Huashan Cinema, Vieshow Cinema of Taroko Mall in Taichung City, and more venues.
Theater professional Keng Yi-wei was presented the Goethe Medal on Aug. 28 at the awards ceremony in Weimar, Germany. The medal has been awarded since 1955 and Keng is the first recipient from Taiwan to receive the prestigious award.
Cultural Features
Yen Yi-wen is a Taiwanese actress, director, and screenwriter. She became active in the Taiwanese theater scene after graduating from the Theater Studies Department at Taipei National University of the Arts, and subsequently participated in various commercials and dramas.
Shakespeare’s Wild Sisters Group, also known as SWS, was established in the summer of 1995. The name of the group is derived from a character in Virginia Woolf’s book “A Room of One’s Own,” symbolizing the liberation of women’s talents from the oppression of the male-dominated system.
