2014 NATIONAL CULTURAL AWARDS

Author and literary translator Chi Pang-yuan, poet-writer Yu Kwang-chung, and the late architect-scholar Han Pao-teh will be honored by the 34th National Cultural Awards on Feb. 9, 2015.


GUADALAJARA BOOK FAIR

The Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico will be held between Nov. 29 and Dec. 7 and the Taiwan Pavilion will display 449 selected comic books and illustrations on the theme of “DESCUBRA TAIWAN (Discover Taiwan).”


POET FEATURED BY LV FOUNDATION

Taiwan-based, Hong Kong-born poetess Yung Man-han gave a rare recital in Paris as part of the “Poetry Now!” celebrations held by the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the cultural promotion arm of the luxury goods group LVMH.


GROWING AUDIOVISUAL SECTOR

Three national programs seen as major indicators of Taiwan’s audiovisual industry development have received additional submissions in recent years. This year saw a 10 percent increase, up to 780 from 704 in 2013.


EMERALD INITIATIVE: OPEN CALL

Proposals will be accepted from Oct. 30 to Dec. 1, 2014 for projects that arrange for Southeast Asian personnel to visit Taiwan for cultural and artistic exchanges in 2015. Grants will be awarded in amounts up to NT$500,000 per project.


ACCELERATE@CERN: OPEN CALL

To promote innovative cross-field cooperation in science and the arts, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Culture and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) have come together to create Accelerate@CERN TAIWAN.


'AESTHETIQUE PARIS'

A special exhibition featuring French painter Marie Laurencin, an equal among her male colleagues in the early 20th century, will be held at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts from Nov. 15 through March 1, 2015.


'A NEW WAVE OF READING'

To promote the habit of reading and shed a unique light on Taiwan-born Japanese people, the Taitung National Living Art Center will organize a reading session on Nov. 30 as part of the “New Wave of Reading” program.


'2014 TAIWAN MUSIC IMAGE'

The “2014 Taiwan Music Image” concert will be held at 2.30pm in Taipei on Nov. 30, featuring chamber music works by three major Taiwanese composers of the 20th century — Tyzen Hsiao, Ke Fanglong, and Chien Nan-chang.


'XILUO MODERN ART FESTIVAL'

An annual town-centered art festival will be held at Yunlin's Xiluo Township this year. The festival features the unique characteristics of the host town while promoting regional tourism for other less-visited communities in central Taiwan.
