DRAFT UNDERWATER HERITAGE ACT

In light of underwater archaeology's status as an emerging international cultural issue, the Ministry of Culture has drafted the nation’s first “Underwater Cultural Heritage Preservation Act.”


COPYRIGHT NETWORK FOR LITERATURE

The Ministry of Culture has combined the 2014 Taipei Rights Workshop with the visit of an international copyright delegation, and plans to establish an English-language copyright information platform.


REHEARSALS VALUED BY NEW SUBSIDY

The Ministry of Culture plans to set aside a budget of NT$15 million (approximately US$489,800) to assist with rehearsals for performing groups in the fields of music, dance, traditional opera, and modern drama in 2015.


SCIENCE PARK WINS TOP PUBLIC ART AWARD

The Southern Taiwan Science Park was honored with the “Outstanding Award” of the fourth Public Art Awards for its long-term efforts in creating a beautiful environment and integrating art with daily life for local residents.


EUROPE READIES FOR U-THEATRE

Taiwan’s U-Theatre, an artful performance group best known for its entrancing and remarkably poised oriental rituals, will embark on a three-nation European tour that will offer shows in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy.


TAIWANESE PHOTOGRAPHY IN PARIS

Paris Photo 2014, a mecca for photographic art, will be held at the Grand Palais in France from Nov. 13 to 16. Beyond Gallery will represent Taiwan with photographs by the late image creation artist Chen Shun-chu (1963 – 2014).


TAIWAN'S AUDIOVISUAL DELEGATES IN LA

Taiwanese films have returned to the American Film Market in Los Angeles after a seven-year hiatus in a campaign organized by the Ministry of Culture’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development.


TEXAS HIGHLIGHTS TAIWANESE CUISINE

“Taste of Taiwan,” a promotional event introducing the features of Taiwanese cuisine that reflects the island’s immigration history and cultural diversity, was held at the Asia Society’s Texas branch in Houston on Nov. 6.


EMERALD INITIATIVE: OPEN CALL

Proposals will be accepted from Oct. 30 to Dec. 1, 2014 for projects that arrange for Southeast Asian personnel to visit Taiwan for cultural and artistic exchanges in 2015. Grants will be awarded in amounts up to NT$500,000 per project.


ACCELERATE@CERN: OPEN CALL

To promote innovative cross-field cooperation in science and the arts, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Culture and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) have come together to create Accelerate@CERN TAIWAN.
