The Taipei International Book Exhibition will return to the Taipei World Trade Center for its 26th edition under the theme "Power of Reading” from Feb. 6 through 11, 2018.
The Ministry of Culture has invited Israel as the guest of honor to introduce Israeli culture through books. As 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel, the exhibition will offer insights into the historic and contemporary developments of the publishing industry in Israel.
A large Hebrew Bible will be installed as the main visual installation of the featured country pavilion. Organizers plan to present the history, religion, folk culture, and innovations of Israel through displays of Israeli landscapes as well as over 200 books of different genres encompassing children, comics, literature, history, and lifestyle.
The featured authors will include Noa Yadlin, a Sapir Prize for Literature winner whose works explore contemporary pop culture and media phenomena; "Uncle Leo's Adventures” author Yannets Levi; food writer Gil Hovav; illustrator Hanoch Piven; and comic artist Michel Kichka.
The pavilion will also hold lectures, book-signing sessions, book launches, and workshops that feature Israeli authors reading their own works for visitors to enjoy timeless languages through literature.
Moreover, Israeli cuisine, films, art, design, fashion, puzzle games, science knowledge, education, and VR technology will be displayed to help visitors learn about the traditional culture and contemporary expertise of Israel.
Around 30 heavyweight authors, illustrators, and comic artists from other countries including the U.S., U.K., France, South Korea, Japan, and Morocco will also join the 26th Taipei book expo.
The Ministry has also invited Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Keelung City to co-host the "City is Reading” program, which will extend a special literary exhibition to promote reading across the three cities. A mobile app will also be available for users to receive updates concerning related forums and activities.
