Taiwan's creative brands to join leading Thai trade fair

The Taiwan Pavilion will make its fourth appearance at the 2017 BIG+BIH Fair, Bangkok's leading trade fair for gifts and lifestyle products, from Oct. 10 through 21.

In addition to the ten creative brands that will join the fair under the banner "Fresh Taiwan,” the Ministry of Culture will also lead eight companies from the Taiwan Design Power project initiated by the Industrial Bureau, independent company TresAsia Design, and six other companies from the Taitung County Government's Taitung Essence project to the international trade fair.

To establish more business networks for promoting Taiwanese culture, another twelve Taiwan brands will be featured at a Fresh Taiwan Pop-Up Shop at the Siam Discovery shopping center for sixteen days.

In recent years, Southeast Asia has climbed significantly in economic growth. Following the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, Southeast Asian countries have become the third largest market in the world after China and India.

With its collective GDP reaching US$2.5 trillion and striking an average of 5% to 7% economic growth rate per year, Southeast Asia is enjoying unprecedented economic growth. As the region has a labor force comprising over 50% young people while the average middle-class income continues to increase, Taiwan seeks to gain more headway in the Southeast Asian market.

Since 2012, the Ministry of Culture has organized the Fresh Taiwan program to select outstanding creative brands to join international fairs. The collaboration with Siam Discovery this year will allow local and international visitors to purchase Taiwan's goods in Bangkok and deepen the demand for Taiwanese goods in Southeast Asia.

The featured brands this time will showcase a variety of designs that are made with materials such as cement, leather, bamboo, metal, and paper. Tripleliving Studio (叁個設計), for instance, integrates cement and silicone to create conflicting aesthetics that combine rough textures and soft qualities.

Yamakawa Design (山川設計) infuses contemporary design and ideas with local culture to revitalize traditional icons. PLEASANT, on the other hand, focuses on combining innovative designs with classic styles to breathe new life into traditional crafts.

Magi-Steel seeks to create artistic, practical, and wafer-thin steel products by combining innovative designs with Taiwan's advanced technology. Lolowood (樂樂木) provides a platform for carpenters to work side-by-side with product designers.

An Everything (一個設計), a brand that celebrates simplicity, creates lifestyle products only in black and white colors. Shiang Design (享向設計) turns vintage goods into modern vessels through re-modeling and re-composition.

Paper Shoot (紙可拍) integrates technology and creativity to come up with irreplaceable cameras. Acousdea (耳酷點子) is a brand that creates innovative speakers to bring the best listening experience to people.

Last but not least, Lilt is a new brand launched by Taiwan's PEGA D&E (和碩設計), a company that has been seeking new creative grounds by integrating skills and materials from different art fields.

Established in 1995, the BIG+BIH Fair is about to enter its 44th edition as the most important trade fair for houseware and gifts in Southeast Asia. This year, it is also collaborating with the Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair (BIFF&BIL) and the Thailand International Furniture Fair (TIFF) to become the largest "Life+Style” fair of its kind.

The Taiwan Pavilion will be stationed from Oct. 17 through 21 at the Bangkok fair, which expects to receive more than 8,000 buyers and 58,000 visitors from around the world this year. Find out more at Fresh Taiwan.
