2017 Creative Expo Taiwan aims to set off 'cultural explosion'

Creative Expo Taiwan (CET), the largest trade fair to present the unique lifestyle and values of Taiwan, will return on April 19 to promote a diverse range of creative products at three venues in Taipei through April 23.

This year's CET is very different compared to the past, as it adopts the method of thematic curation to propose a number of cultural topics through the theme of "Cultural Explosion,” inviting professionals from different disciplines to participate in the curating of the exhibition and triggering imaginative discussions through dialogue.

There will be a new exhibition area titled "LIFE! Craft & Art” that will gather glamorous new craft brands in Taiwan and showcase their source materials, production process, and the affection and personality contained in every creation in the hope of restoring craftwork's rightful place in daily life.

Furthermore, this year's CET has also invited Taiwanese designers and chefs to focus on the theme of "bento (lunch box),” which is an important element in Taiwanese life. Local ingredients have been utilized to design new creative bentos and topple the stereotype of lunch boxes.

Mickey Huang, a celebrity personality known for his creative fashion, has taken on the role of CET Ambassador for the third time. At a press conference on April 14, he wore creative products by CET exhibitors, such as lavish false eyelashes, a bowtie woven with rush grass, and a concrete wristwatch. Through pairing and matching, Huang showcases the unlimited creativity of Taiwan.

The 2017 CET will take place from April 19 to 23 at Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and Taipei Expo Park, with each venue respectively exhibiting cultural and creative products in the categories of "crafts,” "design,” and "licensing.”

The exhibition has gathered over 600 exhibitors from 18 countries around the world, and over 500 fringe activities and events are expected to attract 200,000 visitors.

Under the theme of "Cultural Explosion,” the 2017 CET hopes to spark a chain reaction in the global aesthetic revolution and explore new horizons for Taiwan's cultural and creative sector.
