2016 Digital & Performing Arts Festival to take summer by storm

The Digital & Performing Arts Festival will return for its 7th edition this year, offering performances across Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan from Aug. 12 through Sept. 25.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Quanta Arts Foundation (廣藝基金會), the festival will feature a wide range of programs, spanning from media and technological arts to music and dance performances.

Under the theme "CIAO (潮),” which means trendy and chic in Chinese, a total of six performances will be presented by five performance groups and a trio of Taiwanese musicians, namely Peggy Hsu (許哲珮), Lin Xi (林夕), and Chen Chen-chuan (陳鎮川).

Anarchy Dance Theatre (安娜琪舞蹈劇場), a Taipei-based contemporary dance troupe, will present "Second Body,” a work that combines performers' movement with 3D projection to explore the concept of existence and the human body.

Recoil Performance Group from Denmark will bring "STEREO” to the Taiwan festival and lead audiences into a 3D world that blurs reality and illusion with an intense duet performance.

Following the debut of "Solo Date” in Edinburgh Fringe and the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria, Tainaner Ensemble (台南人劇團) artistic director Tsai Pao-chang (蔡柏璋) will present his first solo performance delineating a man's search for love through artificial intelligence.

Blacklux (黑色流明), a performance troupe that integrates technology with performance arts, will present "X Xrooms,” a hybrid performance of hip-hop dance with electronic music and lights.

Last but not least, an animated theater called "Little Prince” and produced by Sus Scrofa Studio (山豬影像) will tell the story of world literature through a 3D presentation.
