Young Taiwanese filmmakers to join Paris workshop

To reinforce the film training given by the 2015 Taipei PAS Workshop, the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris will host a three-day follow-up film workshop in France from Feb. 8 through 10.

In partnership with the Festival des 3 Continents at Nantes and the Taipei Film Festival, the second phase of the PAS Workshop will provide further training for the participants. To coincide with the workshop, a film festival titled "Les Rencontres du Cinema Taiwanais” will kick off on Feb. 9 to promote Taiwanese films.

The four Taiwanese filmmakers who will participate in the workshop are Lau Kek Huat (廖克發), Liu Chia-hsin (劉家欣), Albert Zoe (周逸民), and Rina Tsou (鄒隆娜).

Their respective film projects — "A Love to Boluomi (菠蘿蜜漫長的飄香等待),” "The Sand in Their Eyes (蜜糖比血甜),” "The Hunter (狐/疑),” and "Raining Roses (緋雨的季節)” — were first devised during last year's workshop in Taipei.

Professional film producers and directors will help the participants in the development of their film projects, from screenplay construction, artistic concepts, and post-production, to finance and film distribution strategies. The workshop aims to help such Taiwanese films enter the European film industry.

Launched in 2000, the Produire au Sud (PAS) Workshop has been organized by the Festival des 3 Continents at Nantes on an annual basis to enhance the ability of young directors in terms of international partnership and film distribution.

In 2015, with the support of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris and the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, a PAS Workshop was held in Taipei to assist Taiwanese young directors in developing their film productions.
