Taiwanese mixed media exhibition in Luxembourg

Artworks by mixed media artists from Taiwan — Yuan Goang-ming (袁廣鳴), Wang Fu-jui (王福瑞), and Wu Chi-tsung (吳季璁) — will be featured in a joint exhibition called "Phantom of Civilization” that will take place in Luxembourg from May 16 to Sept. 6.

Using electric lights, sound waves, and visual imagery, ”Phantom of Civilization” will exhibit eight groups of audiovisual and mixed media installations. The premise of the exhibition is to present the three artists' take on human perception and contemporary society, and how individuals allow emotions and material needs color their judgment.

The joint exhibition is made possible by an ongoing collaboration between contemporary art center Casino Luxembourg and Taipei-based art gallery TheCube. The partnership was established when Kevin Muhlen, artistic director of Casino Luxembourg, visited Taiwan in 2012 at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture's Paris office, and met with TheCube director Amy Cheng (鄭慧華).

As part of the collaboration, Cheng has previously hosted contemporary Luxembourg artists Gast Bouschet and Nadine Hilbert, who exhibited their audiovisual installations collectively titled "UNGROUND” in Taipei last September.

Featured Taiwanese artist Wang Fu-jui will give a live sound performance on the opening day of the exhibition.
