New artists lauded by 2014 Original Music Awards

Four up-and-coming singers were awarded on Aug. 30 for their originality at the 2014 Taiwan Original Music Awards (臺灣原創流行音樂大獎), a songwriting contest for both upcoming and established artists.

The four young singers were Cheng Yi-fan (鄭逸凡), Tai Hsiao-chun (戴曉君), Huang Hsiao-chien (黃筱茜) and Zion Chang (張錫安).

Their works won top awards in the Hakka, indigenous languages, and hoklo categories, respectively. Each recipient will receive a cash prize of NT$300,000.

The awards ceremony also included special performances by reggae-rock band Matzka and female hip-hop rapper Miss Ko (葛仲珊), who was named Best New Artist at the 24th Golden Melody Awards last year.

The award-winning songs will be made into music videos, which will be screened for the public on Sept. 26 at Taipei's Xinyi New Life Square (臺北市信義區香堤廣場).

The annual Taiwan Original Music Awards is organized by the Bureau of Audiovisual & Music Industry Development under the Ministry of Culture.
