Edinburgh Fringe to showcase five top Taiwanese troupes

The Ministry of Culture will launch the first-ever "Taiwan Season” performing arts series at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival that takes up three weeks of summer every year in Scotland's capital city.

Taiwan Season will showcase five unique groups — Feng Dance Theatre (風乎舞雩跨領域創作聚團), Langasan Theatre (冉而山劇場), Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集), Jade & Artist Dance Troupe (肢體音符舞團), and Ten Drum Art Percussion Group (十鼓擊樂團). Each troupe contains an abundance of energy and creativity that will be unleashed on Edinburgh's stages.

Feng Dance Theatre will begin the performance season with "Kid Box,” a tale of mother-kid relations through simple lighting and vivid body language; Langasan Theatre's "Misa-Lisin” celebrates the aboriginal Amis culture and their coexistence with nature; Tjimur Dance Theatre will present a timeless love story from indigenous Paiwan lore through "Kurakuraw Dance Glass Bead”; Jade & Artists and their "Eggs of Blessings” will contrast Western and Eastern dance techniques; last but not least, Ten Drum will offer a lasting impression of Taiwan through their worldly drumming.

The performances will be offered from Aug. 1 through 24 at separate venues: Summerhall—Main Hall (V26), Summer Hall—Old Lab (V26), Dance Base—Studio 3 (V22), and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre's Lomond Theatre (V150).
