'Vision Taiwan' to screen indie cinema in London

The 2014 Chinese Visual Festival (CVF), which will be held at the King's College London, has added a new segment to its program — Vision Taiwan — to feature contemporary and independent filmmakers from Taiwan.

Established in 2011, the film festival is a collaborative effort by arts association Chinese Culture Connect and the Department of Film Studies of King's College London. The CVF invites directors and artists from the Chinese-speaking world to attend screenings, participate in Q&A sessions with audience members, and discuss their works.

This year, from May 7 through 18, the Vision Taiwan segment of the film festival will showcase "A Rolling Stone” by Shen Ko-shang, "Attention, Please!” by Peri Lu, "Crazy Calligraphy” by Adiong Lu, "Disorder” by Chen Ching-ru, "Frog” by Chiang Ming-wei, "My Father, My Mother” by Maso Chen, and "The Way We Are” by Chen Yin-yen.

"The Way We Are,” which has been selected as the opening film of the Vision Taiwan segment, charts the relationship between two visually-handicapped individuals in Taiwan. Documentary maker Chen hopes the true story will lead the viewers to reflect on the treatment of disabled people and how connections are formed.

'Vision Taiwan' is an ongoing collaboration between the CVF and the Ministry of Culture. Other events scheduled for this year includeliterature-inspired filmsin autumn, and a LGBTQ cinema selection.Log onto www.chinesevisualfestival.org for more information.
