Female trio to perform in New York this weekend

A female trio consisting of Taiwanese-American rapper Miss Ko (葛仲珊), Taiwanese singer-songwriter Joanna Wang (王若琳) and DJ Noodles is scheduled to perform in a concert titled 'Taiwan Music Night' on Oct. 18 as part of the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon, one of the largest music events in New York City.

Representing Taiwan, the three will be featured in the two-hour concert that takes place at the city's Webster Hall, one of the largest venues of the event jointly organized by GCA Entertainment and Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, said Susan Yu, director of the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, at a press conference in NYC.

Taiwan-produced Mandarin pop music now plays a key role in the Asian music industry, noted Deputy Director General Alex K. S Fan of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in New York.

'Taiwan Music Night' has been one of the most popular programs in the annual music festival, said Alex d'Amencourt, head of the CMJ Music Marathon, adding that he hoped that more Taiwanese musicians will not only continue performing in NYC but also add to the diversity of the American music industry.

Miss Ko, who was born and raised in New York, said that she was thrilled to be back home to perform and hopes to have an opportunity to perform with her idol, Justin Timberlake, in the near future. Joanna Wang said she has worked with foreign musicians and the experiences have inspired her to produce more music works.

'I feel lucky to have an opportunity to work with Rabbi Darkside this time and hope I will have more chances to cooperate with him in Taiwan and elsewhere,' DJ Noodles added.

The annual CMJ Music Marathon from Oct. 15 to 19 features over 1,400 live performances at more than 80 nightclubs and theaters across New York. It is a major platform for new artists to be discovered and signed.

The event will also include conferences and seminars on such topics as music copyright and distribution, independent labels, music videos and songwriting.
