CANNES TO FEATURE TAIWANESE FILMS AND TAIWAN MOVIE NIGHT

Twenty-four film companies from Taiwan will attend this year's Cannes Film Festival in France to promote Taiwanese films, the Taipei Film Commission said on Friday.

A Taiwan film guide that includes information about the companies, film projects and 95 Taiwanese feature films, shot films, documentaries and animations, will be available for distribution at the festival, the commission said.

One of the highlights for Taiwan at the festival this year will be the premiere of films under the 'Taipei Factory' project, jointly launched by the commission and the festival's Directors' Fortnight.

Under the project, four directors from Iran, Chile, South Korea and France each collaborated with a Taiwanese director to write, shoot and edit a 15-minute film in Taiwan during their stay from Feb. 25 to March 15. The films will premiere onMay 16 at the opening of the Fortnight section.

A Taiwan movie night event will also be held on May 18 in Cannes, which is expected to be attended by international filmmakers and media.
The festival will run from May 15-26.
