HIGH HOPES FOR THE NEW BUREAU OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai expressed hope on Tuesday that the Bureau of Cultural Heritage under the new Ministry of Culture will provide more efficient and better services.

The establishment of the bureau will focus on introducing the stories behind historically important architecture, houses and landmarks around the country, Lung said at the bureau's inauguration ceremony in Taichung, central Taiwan.

The Bureau, which is one of the major institutes under the Ministry of Culture, administers cultural heritage preservation, which includes historical sites, antiquities, cultural landscapes, folk art and traditional art forms.

It will integrate administrative resources and establish a good foundation for the future in every aspect of life.

Meanwhile, Lung said, she is planning to propose more budget to help carry out cultural heritage preservation.

Taichung Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun, who has been active in the cultural community over the years, suggested that to properly preserve cultural heritage, measures including regulations and reward incentive programs should be implemented.

Stanley Wang, director of the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, expressed hope that the Bureau will play a leading role in preserving the country's cultural assets and promoting the creative industries.
