Subsidies offered to encourage Taiwanese original comics production

The Ministry of Culture announced the winners of its inaugural funding project for original comics production on Aug. 29, through which more than 100 proposals were awarded over NT$82.57 million in subsidies.

With the aim of helping comic artists and graphic designers make quality productions, the Ministry of Culture now provides funds for the production, marketing, applications, and cross-industry development of original ACG ─ animations, comics, and games.

With regards to this unprecedented project, 358 proposals were filed. After the jury panel's careful examination, 102 of them were granted eligibility, including 64 individual proposals and 16 group proposals in the comics category, 7 proposals in the graphic design category, and 15 cross-category proposals.

The Ministry of Culture noted that this inaugural project was joined by versatile proposals, such as comic creations, animations based on comics, synchronized publishing and audiovisual productions, and comics made from games and literary works.

Minister of Culture Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) noted that this project offers Taiwanese ACG producers with a more robust creative platform, which is seen as key to fostering the power of ACG productions and applications in Taiwan's intellectual property (IP) industry.

This Ministry will continue to offer financial and consultative assistance to the production and publication of Taiwan's original comics and graphic designs, encourage cross-industry collaboration, and promote Taiwan's IP industry at the global markets.
