Paper Windmill Theatre exhibits giant blue horse statue in front of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

A three-storey high, 13-meter-long giant bright blue horse statue with rainbow-colored mane and tail, which is a main character of Paper Windmill Theatre's theatrical production "Rain Horse (雨馬)," will be exhibited at the plaza in front of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei from March 25 through March 28. Along with the exhibition, the theatrical troupe will perform a segment of the play on March 27 and March 28.

In collaboration with the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC), Paper Windmill Theatre presented the "Rain Horse (雨馬)," a theatrical production for children, earlier this month and the play was warmly received. Adapted from the picture book of the same title by Hakka Taiwanese novelist Hsiao Yeh (小野), "Rain Horse" features singing, dancing, stunts, and impressive stage design with huge installations and special effects. The story centers on three brave and strong kids who try to ease the tension between two tribes on an island that is suffering from monkeypox virus and drought.

Paper Windmill Theatre director Jen Chien-cheng (任建誠) expressed his hopes to convey the messages of caring and blessings through performing arts, amidst the ongoing pandemic. He stated that, one of the reasons for choosing National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall as the performance venue is its location. He hopes that visitors will be able to capture the nearby Taipei 101 building as the background image while taking photographs of the rain horse statue. The "Rain Horse" performance signifies Taiwan's achievements in preventing the spread of COVID-19, as children in Taiwan are able to watch live performances, and it is also a blessing that Taiwan would like to pass to the world, according to Jen.

Yang Tong-hui (楊同慧), deputy director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, expressed her cheerfulness for "Rain Horse" to be exhibited at the memorial hall plaza. She hopes that it will bring more rainfalls to ease the current drought situation in Taiwan.

In response to COVID-19, precautionary measures will be implemented during the event. For more information, please visit the official website of the Paper Windmill Theatre.
