Online opening of 'Taiwan Acts! Architecture in Social Dialogue' exhibition in Munich

Titled "Taiwan Acts! Architecture in Social Dialogue," featuring the social role of buildings designed by Taiwanese architects, is the first of its kind in Germany and Taiwan's largest and most informative exhibition of modern architecture and culture. The exhibition will kick off in Munich on July 8, with an online opening ceremony held a day before the launch.

In light of the ongoing pandemic, the opening ceremony was conducted via video conferencing, accompanied with pre-recorded congratulatory videos by Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te (李永得), Mayor of Hsinchu Lin Chih-chien (林志堅), Mayor of Keelung Lin Yu-chang (林右昌), as well as other Taiwanese architects and distinguished guests, conveying their appreciation and blessings to the exhibition.

In the video, Minister Lee expressed his sincere gratitude to the members of the curatorial team including Taiwanese architect Chiu Chen-yu (裘振宇), associate professor of Department of Architecture of Shih Chien University Wang Chun-hsiung (王俊雄), and Andres Lepik, the curator of the Architekturmuseum der TUM, among others. In addition, he hopes that Lepik, who showed initiative to promote the exhibition, can visit Taiwan again with other architects after the pandemic to deepen bilateral cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Germany.

Lepik addressed that he was deeply impressed by Chiu's speech in Copenhagen three years ago. It intrigued his interest in Taiwanese architecture which led him to visit Taiwan in 2019. Lepik said he was amazed by Taiwanese generosity and openness. To a certain degree, he believed the show displays the spirit of Taiwanese. He hopes industry experts and German audiences will visit the exhibition and become acquainted with Taiwan from now on.

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany stated that there are more than 100 exhibited works in five sections of the exhibition with titles including "Building for world citizens," "Building for local community," "Building Autonomy in Architecture," "Living in Yilan and creating Yilan," "Regenerating Hsinchu."
