2021 National Cultural Congress holds first regional forum in Kaohsiung

Revolving around "undying culture," the "2021 National Cultural Congress" held its first regional forum at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, attended by up to 100 participants from industries, the government and the academia.

The first half of the forum includes the topics of "Strengthening Local Culture and History" and "Translating and Application of Taiwanese Cultural Values." "Strengthening Local Culture and History" explores Taiwan's history of questioning one's own identity. "Translating and Application of Taiwanese Cultural Values" emphasized that while planning basic cultural and historical projects, it is necessary to use methods that are highly acceptable to ordinary people in order to strengthen narrative and storytelling capabilities so as to convey the essence of Taiwanese culture.

In the afternoon session, the forum discussed two topics: "Promoting cultural cross-domain and international cooperation" and "Youth participation and Cultural Equality."

"Promoting cultural cross-domain and international cooperation" explores the promotion of cultural, professional, and public governance in various fields in developing the art and cultural industries in addition to discussing digital cultural strategies in cross-cultural cooperation, and the reproduction of original Taiwanese cultural content through cultural technology.

"Youth Participation and Cultural Equality" shares how to create platforms to obtain government resources and highlights the urgent need to foster young entrepreneurs. It also points out the dedication of new immigrants in the communities, and urges the government to provide multiple channels to help new immigrants participate in public affairs in order to achieve equal rights.

In a speech, Vice Minister of Culture Lee Lien-chuan (李連權) pointed out that Taiwan is currently facing two dilemmas, including the fracture in historical memory caused by changing times, and the simplification of the outsourced manufacturing economy due to the emphasis on efficiency. Lee hopes that the first forum will use local perspectives to carry out dialogues on the development strategies of Taiwan's culture.
