Taiwanese film and documentaries won three awards at New York Festivals TV & Film Awards

The award winners of the 2022 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards were announced on Apr. 26 at its virtual Storytellers Gala event. Eight entries from Taiwan were selected as finalists, and three entries won gold and bronze awards.


"Solo Dance (獨舞者的樂章)," directed by Lee Li-shao (李立劭) won the gold medal in the arts category; "The Child of Light (光的孩子)" by Herb Hsu (徐麗雯) and "In Search of Rice Huller (礱之旅)" by Wu Wen-rui (吳文睿) received bronze medals in feature films and cultural issues category, respectively.


"Solo Dance" is an 83-minute documentary about dance educator Lin Ssu-tuan (林絲緞), who is over 80 years old but still fervently pursues her ideas and passions with her body. "In Search of Rice Huller" is a documentary that introduces the history of the rice hulling industry in Taiwan. "The Child of Light" is a film that tells the story of a successful dancer named Yu-Lan, who had to retire to take care of her foster mother when she was diagnosed with dementia.


The entries that were selected as finalists were "Gold Leaf (茶金)," "The Catch (捕鰻的人)," "Island of Mountains: Believe it or not. This is Taiwan (群山之島與不去會死的他們)," "A Quest for the Everlasting Bloom (藝術很有事-追尋不朽的青春)" and "Aqua Challenge (決戰水下伸展台)."


Established in 1957, the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards honors the best in news, sports, documentary, information, entertainment programs, and more. Engaging film and television entries created by filmmakers and storytellers from 42 countries were judged online by the 2022 TV & Film Awards Grand Jury, and screened by NYF’s TV & Film Awards Grand Jury of more than 200 producers, directors, writers, and other creative media professionals from around the globe.
