The Creative Expo Taiwan (CET) 2023 will kick off on Sept. 22, and its IP Theme Hall, scheduled to open at Huashan 1914 Creative Park on Sept. 26, will feature the works of Taiwanese illustrators and comic artists, the Ministry of Culture announced.
The star-studded lineup of artists includes picture book author Jimmy Liao (幾米), cartoonist I’m Mark (我是馬克), and award-winning illustrators Hom Hsu (徐至宏), Little Oil Art (小油画), Croter, Michun, and Chiaos Tseng (角斯角斯). The IP comics “Mei Mei (美美)” and “Tea Girls (茶葉少女)” will also be exhibited at the Hall.
MOC said that the IP Theme Hall will present the charm of IP cross-field creations through the application of multimedia materials such as e-books, collectible figurines, and planographic printing. Visitors will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the character drafts and video interviews with the artists, getting a better understanding of how contemporary creators from Taiwan have appeared on the international stage, the MOC added.
Based on the theme “Taiwan’s Unique Spirit (臺灣特有種),” the exhibited works focus on nature, culture, and contemporary. Through these art pieces, artists express their concerns about ecological and social issues on the island, telling the world compelling stories about Taiwan.
Known as "the driving force behind Taiwan's illustration art," the curator of the IP Theme Hall Huang Mi-lu (黃米露) hopes that through the exhibition, more people will realize these featured creators are the embodiment of “Taiwan’s unique spirit.” She believes that Taiwanese artists have advantages in drawing compositions and conveying information through images with their creativity because of Taiwan’s freedom, openness, and diversity. Huang looks forward to letting the public see the beauty and potential of illustration art through the featured artworks at the IP Theme Hall.
