Taipei Fashion Week SS24 kicks off with youthful glamour

The Taipei Fashion Week SS24 opened at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on Oct. 11. Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang (王時思), the Director of the National Palace Museum Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌), Belizean Ambassador Dr. Candice Pitts, legislator Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤), and other guests were invited to inaugurate the event.

Many showbiz celebrities also participated in the opening show, including singers WeiBird (韋禮安) and Qiu Feng-ze (邱鋒澤), as well as actresses Kuo Shu-yao (郭書瑤) and Lyan Cheng (程予希), to name but a few.

In the opening ceremony, Deputy Culture Minster Wang said that the Taipei Fashion Week SS24 follows the global trend by focusing on youth’s perspective, presenting the role of youths as the driving force behind the vogue. “The future belongs to the youth,” she added. She also mentioned that this event emphasizes the interdisciplinary essence of fashion and culture, hoping that arts could be fused with social issues through fashion.

The Ministry of Culture stated that the opening show invited 6 teams of designers to interpret trendy elements adored by youths. By deconstructing these elements, they explored local pop culture and attempted to break away from the traditional catwalk. In this regard, they adopted different styles of music that are rebellious, such as hip-hop, rock, and electronic, to emphasize the youth’s attitude towards fashion, which is expressive, unique, authentic, and critical.

The Taipei Fashion Week is not only a platform to boost the fashion industry, but it is also a stage to showcase the core of Taiwanese design philosophy, which includes cultural creativity, multiculturalism, inclusivity, and sustainability.
