The 2023 A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Award ceremony was held at Cultural Heritage Park in Taichung City on Oct. 14. Aiming to build brands focused on cultural preservation and creative design through a competition, the Bureau of Cultural Heritage (BOCH) organized the A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Award in 2022.

The BOCH invited 20 experts from different fields to serve as the award judges, and these professionals selected 213 works out of 1,429 submissions as finalists.

Deputy Minister of Culture Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) mentioned that culture can be defined as all the ways of life and past generations have left precious cultural assets to us. However, without being utilized and revived properly, these assets will be forgotten gradually and even lose their value in the wake of social changes, she added. Lee said that the A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Award provides a stage for people to present their creativity to preserve cultural heritage and even to increase its value through design, allowing the heritage to be passed down in more diverse forms to the next generation.

BOCH’s Director-General Chen Chi-ming (陳濟民) said that the A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Award is the only domestic design competition that focuses on cultural assets. He added that this year’s competition is open to non-student contenders, encouraging more people who have brilliant ideas for cultural heritage and design to shine at the arena. From this year’s nominated works, people can see the emerging designers incorporate various elements of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage into their creations, Director-General Chen remarked, noting that, through artistic interpretation, cultural heritage can be brought into everyday life.

Following the award ceremony, a series of events are taking place until Nov. 12, including an exhibition on nominated and award-winning works, the Designers’ Night, industrial partnering matchmaking events, master lectures, weekend concerts, and bazaars.
