The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) revealed the latest additions to the book series “My Home, My Art Museum: Biographies of Taiwanese Artists (家庭美術館-美術家傳記叢書)” and the DVD collection “Documentaries of Distinguished Taiwanese Artists (臺灣傑出藝術家紀錄片)” in the press conference on Dec. 4. The 2023 addition saw the inclusion of 10 artist biographies and 5 documentaries.

The Ministry of Culture (MOC) initiated the “My Home, My Art Museum: Biographies of Taiwanese Artists” book series in 1993 and the “Documentaries of Distinguished Taiwanese Artists” in 2007. Until now, 171 artist biographies and more than 60 documentaries have been published.

In the press conference, Culture Minister Shih Che highlighted the importance of the artist biographies and documentaries for preserving Taiwan’s culture. The MOC will launch a “Reconstructing Taiwan’s Art History 2.0 (重建台灣藝術史2.0)” program next year, he added, striving to showcase the country’s unique culture to the world.

Minister Shih also emphasized the role of the Ministry’s “1 Plus 4 – T-content plan” (黑潮計畫) in supporting local artists, announcing that through the program, the MOC will introduce grants to encourage veteran artists to collaborate with private museums and curators to participate in international exhibitions.

Representing the artists featured in the biographies, Su Shian-fa (蘇憲法) conveyed appreciation to the team who created the series. He said that the inclusion in the biography series signifies a successful conclusion for departed artists and a significant milestone for those who still actively contribute, reminding them to persist in their creative endeavors.

The “My Home, My Art Museum: Biographies of Taiwanese Artists” and “Documentaries of Distinguished Taiwanese Artists” have accumulated over 200 works, available at the NTMoFA’s website for free download. In addition, these publications are also widely distributed to major art organizations and libraries for public access.
