Taiwanese glove puppetry workshops held in French university INALCO

The French university Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO) hosted the international colloquium “Words from Taiwan: Emergence, Mediation, Interpretation” on Mar. 28 and 29. After the event, participants of a workshop on Taiwanese glove puppetry brought their performance under the guidance of Jean-Luc Penso.

Jean-Luc Penso, a disciple of the glove puppetry master Li Tian-lu (李天祿), founded the Theatre du Petit Miroir in 1978 and regularly toured Europe with his productions. Invited by INALCO, he conducted the workshop to pass on his skills and knowledge in glove puppetry to students in France.

With over 50 years of experience in puppetry performance and education, Jean-Luc Penso said that Taiwanese art has profoundly influenced his life and become an integral part of his life. He highlighted the diversity and inclusiveness of Taiwanese culture and emphasized its potential for further development due to considerable efforts in cultural preservation.
