National Taiwan Museum of Comics partially opens in late December

The long-awaited National Taiwan Museum of Comics (NTMC) partially opened on Dec. 23 in Taichung City. The museum kicked off eight themed exhibitions set in the eastern compound of the museum. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦), Culture Minister Shih Che, Deputy Mayor of Taichung Huang Kuo-jung (黃國榮), and other distinguished guests from abroad.

In the ceremony, Vice Premier Cheng emphasized that culture is the soul of a city, while comics are cross-boundary and cross-generational memories. Determined to fully open the NTMC by 2029, he promised that the Executive Yuan will continue supporting the completion of the museum.

Minister Shih underlined the role of the NTMC as a hub for cultural promotion and as a stage for comic artists. Keeping this mission in mind, he noted that the Ministry of Culture made great strides to achieve the partial opening of the museum following the announcement that the site of the former Taichung Prison has been designated as the future national comics museum last April.
