Winners of the 59th Golden Horse Awards announced

The ceremony for the 59th Golden Horse Awards, one of the most prestigious and time-honored film awards in the Mandarin-speaking community, was held on Nov. 19 at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei City.


Hosted by award-winning actress Hsieh Ying-xuan (謝盈萱), the ceremony presented awards in 23 categories, along with two Lifetime Achievement Awards and an award recognizing the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year.


At the star-studded event, the Best Narrative Feature Award was given to the Taiwanese film "Coo-Coo 043 (一家子兒咕咕叫) by Taiwanese director Chan Ching-lin (詹京霖); veteran Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong (黃秋生) was crowned best leading actor for his role in the film "The Sunny Side of the Street (白日青春);" while veteran Taiwanese actress Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉) was named best leading actress for the third time for her role in the film "A Light Never Goes Out (燈火闌珊)."


The Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to two veteran filmmakers Chang Chao-tang (張照堂) and Lai Cheng-ying (賴成英); while late special effects specialist Chen Ming-ze (陳銘澤) was honored with the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year in honor of his contribution to the industry. Chen was dedicated to the latest special effects knowledge, especially in explosions. He also established his own company to nurture new talents, delivering dazzling action scenes with utmost safety for execution.


Other winners of the Golden Horse Awards included Lau Kok-rui (劉國瑞), a Malaysian writer-director who won awards for best original screenplay and best new director for "The Sunny Side of the Street;" Kagaw Piling (林詹珍妹), who earned the Best Supporting Actress Award for "GAGA (哈勇家);" Berant Zhu (朱軒洋), who took home the best supporting actor honor for "Bad Education (黑的教育);" and more.
