Taiwan International Festival of Arts to bring back Cloud Gate's classic production

The National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH) announces the 2023 Taiwan International Festival of Arts (TIFA) which runs from Feb. 18 to May 14, 2023 will be featuring 19 productions. It is noteworthy that Cloud Gate Dance Theatre will bring back one of its classics "Legacy (薪傳)" to the annual pageant. On top of that, the production will be directed by the founder Lin Hwai-min (林懷民) in collaboration with the Ju Percussion Group.

According to the NTCH, TIFA has been affected by the pandemic for the past two years and it was unable to show the best of itself. In 2023, it is expected that international exchanges will fully resume, and performances will be carried out as scheduled.

As the premiere of Cloud Gate's signature work "Legacy" happened to be on the day when the United States terminated diplomatic relations with the Republic of China, this piece carries shared memories of the Taiwanese.

The 22nd National Award for Arts winner Bulareyaung Pagarlava joined hands with singer Abao (aljenljeng) and Reretan Pavavaljung to present the performance "tiaen tiamen (我.我們)" Episode 1, showing the creative energy of Paiwan artists.

Festival d'Avignon director Tiago Rodrigues and Comédie de Genève will tell the audience a story on the battlefield that emphasizes the dignity and resilience of humans with their work "Dans la mesure de l'impossible."

Presenting "A 24-Decade History of Popular Music" which features outrageous costumes, dazzling sounds, and lighting, Tony Awards-nominated Taylor Mac will sing about the social and cultural development of the United States.

Besides drama and dance plays, music-related content like "With Wings: Chamber Music Concert," a violin recital by GRAMMY-nominated Christian Tetzlaff, and "Small Island Big Song LIVE" by Taiwanese producer BaoBao Chen and Australian music producer Tim Cole will be on the bill in the festival.
