Taipei International Book Exhibition to kick off, offering multi-sensory reading experience

The 31st Taipei International Book Exhibition, themed "The Multiverse of Reading," will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, with Poland serving as the guest of honor.

The content of each exhibition area was revealed at the press conference on Jan. 10 by Ministry of Culture's Department of Humanities and Publications director Chen Ying-fang (陳瑩芳), Taipei Book Fair Foundation chairperson Isabella Yunyi Wu (吳韻儀), NMTL director Nikky Lin (林巾力), Indie Publishers Association of Taiwan chairman Sharky Chen (陳夏民), and curators of the theme pavilions.

To allow easier access to the different categories of books, MOC stated that the book fair is divided into several themes and designed to activate the basic senses of humans: sound, smell, touch, and taste to provide a multi-sensory experience. The national languages of Taiwan are integrated into the exhibition to showcase the nation’s strength as a multilingual society; the exhibition also promotes net-zero emissions to ensure sustainable development in literary and environmental settings.

The Pavilion of Children’s Books, with a marine life theme, will present various kinds of works featuring 16 types of sea animals including the humpback whale; the Pavilion of Digital Publications will be set up as a "spacecraft shelter," and readers can explore the differences between reading on paper or screens; the Pavilion of Book Prize Winner will display works that have won plaudits at the Golden Tripod Awards, Golden Comic Awards, the China Times Open Book Award and others.

The literature section, organized by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, will feature several Taiwanese publishers and representatives to share with readers behind-the-scenes details of the publishing industry.
