'Projecting Beyond Media – Contemporary Light Art Exhibition'

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.” - Leonard Cohen

Customized in-situ art using light projections will greet exhibitiongoers at Nantou's National Taiwan Craft Development and Research Institute from May 14 through Nov. 20.

"Projecting Beyond Media - Contemporary Light Art Exhibition” will be housed in a four-story building, in which each level will have its own unique offerings and themes after a careful year of planning and residencies.

The ground-floor installations aim to breakdown the absolute relationship between space and venue. Spatial concepts of indoor and outdoor space are blurred in the laser projections by Chuang Chih-wei (莊志維), the venue is reinvented by shadow overlays by Jen Hsin-ying (任芯瑩), and sunlight bestows "movement” to an origami sundial by Hsu Ting-jui (許廷瑞).

The second-floor installations herald a "methodical use of light.” Artists Lin Kun-ying (林昆穎), Chen Mao-hui (陳茂輝), Chen Jun-yuan (陳俊源), Hong Zih-hao (洪子皓), Lin Ching-yu (林靖祐), Lee Chia-ying (李佳穎), and Su Tsu-han (蘇子涵) join design brands QisDESIGN and Lumio in creating light products that are both functional and a reflection of the urban state of mind.

The third-floor installations examine the duality of mankind's dependent-destructive relationship with nature through the works of 8 artists - Yeh Yi-li (葉怡利), Chuang Chih-wei (莊志維), Ohmaki Shinji (大卷伸嗣), Wu Chien-yi (吳芊頤), Ding Chien-chung (丁建中), Shih Yen-chun (施彥君), Deer Light (鹿燈), and Lin Chen-chi (林振吉).

Last but not least, BETWEEN DESIGN (之間設計), Hsiao Sheng-chien (蕭聖健), Acorn Studio (橡果藝術), Rex Hon (洪鈺堂), LIGHT+, Danzo Studio (蛋造設計), Shih Wei-chieh (施惟捷), Tao Ya-lun (陶亞倫), and QisDESIGN combine craft skills with the unique characteristics of light to create artisanal lighting products for the fourth-floor display.
