'Allegory by Ni Tsai-chin: A Memorial Retrospective'

To commemorate the late artist Ni Tsai-chin's (倪再沁) lifelong contribution to the arts, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung will host a retrospective exhibition in collaboration with Tunghai University from March 26 through June 12.

Curated by independent curator and Tunghai professor Li Szu-hsien (李思賢), the exhibition titled "Allegory by Ni Tsai-chin: A Memorial Retrospective” will present four sessions incorporating different topics to reflect Ni's art journey.

A total of 143 artworks spanning Chinese paintings, oil paintings, sculptures, publications, manuscripts, seal cuttings, a performance piece, and installation art with environmental and interactive elements will be displayed. These creations will demonstrate Ni's critical thinking, self-reflection, and his allegories on Taiwan's society and environment.

Born in 1955, Ni was a prolific artist who dedicated his life to creating artworks, writing social critiques, and participating in cultural events. Ni's role in exploring art theories such as "The Subjectivity of Taiwanese Art” made him a significant figure in the art field.

In 1997, Ni served as the director of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, where he initiated a major renovation project and advocated the publication of art critiques and an academic outline of Taiwanese art development. Ni also played a leading role in preserving artworks by earlier generations of artists in Taiwan.

Ni passed away at the age of 60 in 2015. His accolades include the Arts & Business Awards, the DEOA Art Criticism Award, and the Wu Yong-fu Literary Award (巫永福文學獎).
