'An Alternative Travelogue'

"An Alternative Travelogue,” a new media exhibition running at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts from Feb. 27 through May 22, aims to reflect on contemporary social issues and the consequences of globalization.

Curated by Jiang Pei-xin (江珮歆), a total of twelve new media artworks encompassing videos, installations, and digital photography by eleven young artists will be showcased in three sections.

The first section - "The Ongoing Memory: The Past” -will explore the roles of past experiences and how political power controls the historical past. It will also show how artists record their daily life, visible data, and invisible sounds through digital media.

The second section - "Experiencing Now: The Present” -will showcase video installations and digital photographic works reflecting the artists' observation on humanity, visual cognition, and the relations between the individual and the world.

The third section - "The Future Journey at the Moment: The Future”- will present animation and videos to question future development while reflecting current social movements and events.

An opening ceremony and press conference will be held on Feb. 27. Additional forums will also be held on the same day at the museum's Digiark gallery, in which the featured artists, art critic Tsai Ming-jiun (蔡明君), and professor Chen Tai-song (陳泰松) from the Taipei National University of the Arts will join in to share their ideas and experiences.
