'12th Int'l Art Fair of People with Disability in Taiwan'

The 12th International Art Fair of People with Disability in Taiwan will open at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to showcase artworks by 15 disabled artists from Nov. 10 through 22.

Curated by the China Professional Skills Association for the Handicapped, the opening ceremony will be held on Nov. 13 with the featured artists joining to share their stories and interact with the public through their artistic creations.

Association director Chen Shih-chin (陳士金) noted that the art fair was established to advocate the therapeutic properties of art that may help disabled individuals resolve their inner struggles through making art.

Huang Yi-ching (黃意晴), a disabled artist living with cerebral palsy, will share her experience of finding confidence and personal values through ink paintings at the opening ceremony.

Huang was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 6, and has since been depending on a wheelchair for mobility. Stiff muscles disallow Huang to move her limbs, only her head. However, with the help of contemporary eye-tracking technology, Huang can create art by moving her eyeballs.

The art exhibition aims to bring out the positive, allowing audiences to see how disabled artists overcame obstacles and created artwith their passion and creativity. For more information, please visit www.yatsen.gov.tw.
