'2014 Digital Performing Arts Festival'

The fourth edition of the Digital Performing Arts Festival, Taiwan's premier showcase of mixed media and innovation in the performing arts, will take place from Oct. 24 through Nov. 16 at selected cities across the nation.

Established in 2010, the Digital Performing Arts Festival hopes to encourage cross-sector collaboration among performing artists and digital media professionals. Subsidies are offered to spur experimentation, and the festival becomes a platform for exchanges among local and international artists.

This year's theme has been revealed as "Trans-Quadrant,” a nod to the festival's history as the organizers hope to identify common elements from past performances and observe how digital technology have evolved since. The isolation of universal themes will also reflect this generation's culture.

This year's lineup will include Taiwanese audiovisual duo HH and their concert-esque "Syn-Infection”; the mockingly named Very Mainstream Studio and their exploration of the smartphone-dominated lifestyle in "Teatime with Me, Myself, and I”; BodyEDT and clever choreography about an unassuming lapin existence in "Mr. R”; and YiLab, Japanese stage set maestro Ryoya Fudetani, and the suspension of reality in light show "Wave.”

Six other groups subsidized by the Ministry of Culture will also stage their experimental routines at the month-long festival, which will kick off in Taipei on Oct. 24 and make its way across the nation by holding performances in the cultural parks of Kaohsiung and Chiayi.
