Address:No. 2, Section 1, Wǔquán West Rd, Xi District, Taichung City, Taiwan 403

Calling for "a return to everyday life,” the 2013 Asian Art Biennial organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMOFA) and the Ministry of Culture will take place from Oct. 5 through Jan. 5 in Taichung City.

Event curator Iris Shu-ping Huang (黃舒屏), a graduate of UK'sUniversity of Leeds, explains that the recent development of Asian contemporary arts have been shaped by everyday practices and defined by the artistic language derived from everyday life.

Her choice of this year's theme, "Everyday Life,” seeks to reflect and contextualize the chaotic and irregular life that Asia faces in today's time, in which she invited artists to comment on shifting social conventions in an era where globalization hastens the blurring of cultures and identities.

Now in its fourth year, the Asian Art Biennial will feature artworks by roughly 40 contributing artists from both Taiwan and abroad, including Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. The biennial will also be complemented by curatorial symposiums and lectures by guest scholars.
