"Burning! The Strumming of a Guitar's Soul,” a Taipei concert featuring a world-renowned guitarist alongside Japanese and Taiwanese musicians, will take place at the National Concert Hall on June 8.

Award-winning Taiwanese guitarist Lin Chia-wei, 25, will perform the flamenco piece 'Asturias' by Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz. He will be accompanied by the National Chinese Orchestra of Taiwan in a stunning musical collaboration that will combine the string instruments of the East and the West.

Lin, the son of a street market vendor, started learning guitar when he was 4 years old from his father, Lin Kung-hsin. He began performing two years later, and took formal lessons when he was 10.

Determined to learn from the best, Lin went to Germany in 2009 to study at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy, where he became a student of renowned guitar teacher Hubert Kappel.

Shortly after enrolling in the Cologne Conservatory of Music in Germany, Lin won second prize and the audience award at the 10th European Classical Guitar Competition Enrico Mercatali in Italy in May.

He won first prize at the Koblenz International Guitar Competition in Germany later that month, meaning he now has a chance to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York.
