The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) is hosting a paper art exhibition titled “IF x Paper: 2024 Puli Paper Exhibition (如果x紙:2024埔里紙藝展)” at the Puli International Flower Center (埔里國際花卉中心), opening now until Mar. 10.

The traditional paper craft in Puli Township (埔里鎮), Nantou County, was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage in 2020. As an important paper manufacturing region in the country, Puli plays the role of preserving traditional papermaking techniques and innovating paper art for modern use.

This exhibition attempts to promote paper art and craft by highlighting how paper is used as a carrier of culture, lifestyle, and knowledge. It also showcases how the paper industry in Puli progressed over time.

NTCRI Director Chen Tien-li (陳殿禮) mentioned that, due to the hard work of local paper manufacturers and paper artists, the Puli paper industry has formed a recognizable local brand and has been flourishing by collaborating with the tourism sector.
