‘The Top of Craft’

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute has brought together 62 craft masters from across Taiwan to showcase 109 pieces of their top-level works in the "The Top of Craft" at the NTCRI Taipei Branch from Feb. 2 through June 2.

Crafts are a representation of national culture. Craftsmanship is the carrier of Taiwan's cultural continuity, and the development of crafts represents the evolution of human civilization as a whole. Starting from basic survival management, crafts began by supporting people's lifestyles through efficiency, convenience, and continuous improvement. At the same time, crafts symbolize the overall culture of a community.

In "The Top of Crafts," 62 national craft masters have persisted through craftsmanship and passion. Their featured works include wooden crafts, ceramics, metalsmithing, glassware, jade and stone crafts, bamboo and rattan braiding, lacquerware, and indigo dyeing. They have not only preserved the traditional skills that have been passed down for generations, but also found fun and fulfillment during the process, creating more diverse and vital oeuvres for new generations to enjoy.

The theme of the exhibit has been curated from issues stemming from parent-child time, attitudes toward life, natural landscapes, historical origins, modern art, and abstract ideas. Let the displayed artworks evoke the common memories and experiences of this Taiwanese generation.
