NRM presents screening of documentaries about female workers in railway industry

To mark the contributions of female workers in Taiwan's railway industry, Preparatory Office of the National Railway Museum (NRM) presents screening of a series of documentary films of eight different themes. Titled "Taiwan Railway Industry : Documentary of Female Workers (台灣鐵道產業女性紀實影展)," the series will be on view from May 9 to 23 at the auditorium of the museum.

Since 2019, the Preparatory Office of the National Railway Museum has commissioned a professional team to conduct interviews with 17 female workers from various departments and job positions, including station master, inspector, train conductor, railway announcer, train attendant and driver. The documented stories provide insight into the roles and perspectives of women in rail industry, as well as their life stories.

At the premiere of the film screenings, Hung Chih-wen (洪致文), director of NRM's Preparatory Office, pointed out that, apart from restoring and preserving the historical sites and valuable railway vehicles, NRM also puts in effort to update the contents of the permanent exhibitions in the museum. Through the interviews and film exhibition, he hopes to preserve the stories of these railway workers, and at the same time, to allow the public to further understand the life stories, experiences and career prospects of women in the railway industry.

The NRM's Preparatory Office was officially approved and established by the Executive Yuan on Aug. 13, 2019. It was established to lay the foundations of a sustainable museum and ensure that strategic systems are in place as the restoration work is carried out, so as to allow the people of Taiwan to better understand the origins of Taiwan's railway system.

All visitors are required to wear surgical mask at all times throughout the visit, and real-name registration will be implemented. For more information, please visit website .
