Taiwan Music Institute launches 'Living with the Scores: In Memory of Gerald Shih and His Screen Music' exhibition

Taiwan Music Institute (TMI) of National Center for Traditional Arts launched the exhibition titled "Living with the Scores: In Memory of Gerald Shih and His Screen Music" from March 19 to August 31 to pay tribute to the late musical composer Gerald Shih (史擷詠) who passed away 10 years ago in 2011.

Gerald Shih had been nominated for and won the Golden Horse Awards, the Golden Bell Awards and the Golden Melody Awards multiple times. He was honored with the Special Contribution Award at the 23rd Golden Melody Awards in 2012 for his role in the development of Taiwanese music. Last year, Shih's family donated artifacts previously owned by Shih to the TMI, which in turn prompted the TMI to organize this special exhibition in commemoration of the iconic music composer for his life and musical works in various visual media, performing arts, animations, games, commercials and education.

The exhibition is divide into four major parts, namely "The Life Journey of Making Music (播撒音符的生命旅程)," "Classics Works which Blend Music and Visuals (音畫交融的經典作品)," in addition to interview videos "Reminiscing Gerald Shih (追憶史擷詠)," "The Times when the Words are Simple and Deep (言簡情深的那些時候)," and an interactive installation "Sound Creation Hub where Sound and Light Meet (聲光交馳的音創基地)."

TMI pointed out that in addition to displaying precious artifacts such as manuscript scores, photographs, documents, and audio-visual materials, there are also recorded interviews with many associates of the industry, family members, students and other masters who recall memories with Gerald Shih.

It is hoped that through organizing different topics, the life and works of Gerald Shih will be presented, and allow the public to gain a deeper understanding of the passion and sense of mission the music composer had towards music.
