Taiwanese craft works to be exhibited at CET 2023

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) will, for the first time, present a collection of Taiwanese craft brands at the Creative Expo Taiwan (CET) 2023, which will kick off on Sept. 22. NTCRI’s pavilion titled “Island × Craft (島嶼.旅物選)” is scheduled to open at Taipei’s Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on Sept. 26 until Oct. 1.

The display area consists of three sections: “Handmade, Travel, and Experience.” Focusing on the theme of travel, the exhibited art pieces will present the journey stories and the beauty of crafts that come from life experiences. The selected craft works showcase the diverse characteristics of Taiwan’s local communities, demonstrating the richness and diversity of the craft industry in the country.

The selected craft brands range from wood crafts, ceramics, dyeing and weaving, and lacquerware, to art creations, furniture and home decorations, and household items, many of which are produced by long-established brands or emerging artisans.

NTCRI brings together a curated collection of handcrafted works from over 70 brands. This provides an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the world of artistic craftmanship, discover diverse forms of art in everyday life, and gain insight into how these artworks serve as a medium for dialogue and coexistence between human beings and nature. Meanwhile, the expo-goers will have an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of craft characteristics, creative processes, local community culture and customs through close observation of the exhibited works and face-to-face communication with craftspeople.
