  • Huang helped raise NT$7 billion to pay for the production of the 2011 feature "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (賽德克‧巴萊)," which took director Wei Te-sheng (魏德聖) a total of 12 years to make. The film grossed NT$8.8 billion at the box office.

Huang Chih-ming is a senior film producer who has helped to make several Taiwanese films possible through raising funds and integrating resources. With an eye out for the next breakthrough, he also discovers and cultivates new talents in Taiwan's film industry. Huang’s efforts have been recognized by the 51st Golden Horse Awards, which named him the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of 2014.

Huang had aspired to work in the film industry since he was a university student. His first film-related job was to run errands for the Golden Horse Film Festival. Later he worked for "Influence (影響)," a monthly magazine reporting on film, for two years before stepping into the film industry.

In 1995, director Chen Kuo-fu (陳國富), who served as the editor-in-chief for "Influence," convinced Huang and several other employees to leave the magazine and work for Central Motion Pictures Corporation. There, Huang worked in the firm's production unit.

Huang was soon given an opportunity to work with director Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮) on the film set of "Vive L'Amour (愛情萬歲)." Huang began a long-term collaboration with Tsai for several films even after the pair left the company in 2000. Though unemployed, Huang helped Tsai organize, prepare, and finance film projects including "What Time Is It There? (你那邊幾點)" and "I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone (黑眼圈)."

In 2002, Huang re-joined director Chen on the film project "Double Vision," which was partly financed by the Columbia Pictures Corporation. Before shooting, Huang was sent to Hong Kong for training and met director Wei Te-sheng and screenwriter Su Chao-bin (蘇照彬), who both participated in the film's production as well. The action-horror film topped the box office for domestic films that year.

The experience of producing "Double Vision" broadened Huang's perspectives and hopes for Taiwan's film industry, prompting him to produce "Silk (詭絲)" by Su and "Secret (不能說的秘密)" by Jay Chou (周杰倫), as well as "Cape No. 7" and "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale" by Wei, with all of them opening to good box office numbers that helped revive the domestic film industry.

Huang noted that each film project is a unique life experience for him, and instead of producing a high-budget film, he prefers to explore and develop more stories that haven't yet been made into films in Taiwan.
