 Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology

Did You Know That … ?

  • The museum is built around a Grade II historic site known as the Shihsanhang Prehistoric Site (十三行遺址). The site contains evidence that the Iron Age residents were the earliest group of people to have possessed iron-smelting technology in Taiwan.

  • More than eighty percent of the relics remain buried at the site, as construction of a sewage treatment plant took priority in the 1990s. The museum was established in 1992 to preserve the items salvaged before construction took place.

  • The museum currently houses human bones, animal remains, glass beads, pottery utensils, and coins unearthed from the prehistoric site.
