Tian Yuan Temple

Did You Know That ... ?

  • When the cherry trees aren't blossoming, the main attraction at the Tien Yuan Temple is a 200-meter-tall pagoda dedicated to Taoist deities such as the Heavenly Father (無極老主/玄宮上人). The structure has five levels and hosts a group of majestic sculptures that measure around 10 meters each.

  • With only a short blooming season each year that coincides with the arrival of warmer temperatures and better weather, those who want to see the cherry blossoms have to be quick. During the final week of the 2012 cherry blossom festival at Tian Yuan Temple, an estimated 400,000 people made the trek out to the outskirts of Tamsui, including celebrities and politicians.

  • The demand was so high that the community volunteers opened a Facebook page dedicating to updating the public on the number of visitors and the status of the blossoms— the page is available here.
